Is Abilify and Aristada the same thing?
Aristada and Aristada Initio are both aripiprazole lauroxil injections, the long-acting version of Abilify (aripiprazole) used to treat schizophrenia. Aristada Initio is used as a loading dose to jumpstart your treatment on Aristada.
Can Aristada be used for bipolar disorder?
Currently, Aristada isn't used to treat bipolar disorder. It's only used to treat schizophrenia. Abilify Maintena contains aripiprazole, which is very similar to the active ingredient in Aristada, aripiprazole lauroxil. Abilify Maintena is used to treat both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

What is Abilify initio?
Aristada Initio (aripiprazole lauroxil) is a long-acting, one-time loading dose injectable (LAI) formulation of aripiprazole used to avoid the necessity of oral Abilify (aripiprazole). It is FDA-indicated to treat adults with schizophrenia when initiating Aristada (aripiprazole lauroxil).
How does Aristada make you feel?
Aristada can cause sleepiness, orthostatic hypotension, lack of coordination, and dizziness. These side effects can make you more likely to fall. If you take certain medications with Aristada or have certain health problems such as stroke, your risk for falls may be greater than usual.
Does Aristada make you gain weight?
Weight gain is a possible side effect of Aristada. In one study, some people gained weight while receiving Aristada treatment. Aristada belongs to a group of drugs called antipsychotics. Weight gain is a common side effect of this group of drugs.
