Ertapenem is an antibiotic used to treat a variety of severe bacterial infections (e.g., pneumonia, abdominal infections, skin infections, urinary tract/kidney infections).
How To Use
Follow all directions for proper mixing and dilution with the correct IV fluids. If you have questions regarding the use of this medication, consult your pharmacist. Inject this medication into a muscle (IM) or give by vein (IV) over 30 minutes in a saline solution usually once daily, or as directed by your doctor.
Side Effects
Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, constipation, and injection site reactions (e.g., pain, redness, swelling) may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly.
Precautions
Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: kidney problems, brain or seizure disorders, any allergies. Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this medication.
