Folic acid usually has very few side effects. If you experience any unusual effects from taking this medicine, notify your doctor. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

What is Folbee and Folbic?

Folbee®and Folbic™ tablets are labeled as medical foods intended for use under active andongoing medical supervision. Medical Foods are intended for the dietary management of apatient who, because of therapeutic or chronic medical needs, has limited or impaired capacityto ingest, digest, absorb, or metabolize ordinary foodstuffs or certain nutrients, or who has otherspecial medically determined nutrient requirements, the dietary management of which cannot beachieved by the modification of a normal diet alone. Although a medical-food product is intendedfor use under the active and ongoing medical supervision, FDA does not require a prescription.

Can you take pyridoxine with levodopa?

Pyridoxine supplements should not be given to patients receiving thedrug levodopa, because the action of levodopa is antagonized bypyridoxine. However, pyridoxine may be used concurrently in patientsreceiving a preparation containing both carbidopa and levodopa.Concurrent use of phenytoin and folacin (folic acid) may result indecreased phenytoin effectiveness.

Is folic acid a single agent?

Folacin (folic acid) when administered as a single agent in doses above0.1 mg daily, may obscure pernicious anemia in that hematologicremission can occur while neurological manifestations remainprogressive. The 2 mgs of cyanocobalamin contained in Folbic™ Tabletshas been shown to provide an adequate amount of cyanocobalamin toaddress this precaution5. Unmetabolized folic acid has been shown inone study of 105 postmenopausal women (50-75 yrs) to have thepotential to reduce natural killer cells’ cytotoxicity, which may result inan impaired immune response6.

Tell all of your health care providers that you take Folbic (folic acid, cyanocobalamin, and pyridoxine). This includes your doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and dentists.

How is this medicine (Folbic) best taken?

Use Folbic (folic acid , cyanocobalamin, and pyridoxine) as ordered by your doctor. Read all information given to you. Follow all instructions closely.

What to do if you take folic acid while pregnant?

If Folbic (folic acid, cyanocobalamin, and pyridoxine) is taken by accident, get medical help right away. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan on getting pregnant. You will need to talk about the benefits and risks of using Folbic (folic acid, cyanocobalamin, and pyridoxine) while you are pregnant.

What to do if your symptoms don't get better?

If your symptoms or health problems do not get better or if they become worse, call your doctor.

What to do if you think you have an overdose?

If you think there has been an overdose, call your poison control center or get medical care right away. Be ready to tell or show what was taken, how much, and when it happened.

Precautions

  • Tell your doctor your medical history, especially: anemia (e.g., pernicious anemia), any drug or food allergies. This drug has proven safe for use during pregnancy when taken as directed. Folic acid is excreted into breast milk and has not been reported to cause harm to nursing infants. Consult your doctor about breast-feeding and using folic acid.
