Uses
This medication is used to treat diarrhea or to reduce the amount of discharge in patients who have undergone an ileostomy.
How To Use
Take this medication by mouth exactly as directed. Do not increase your dose or take this longer than two days without your doctor's approval. Notify your doctor if diarrhea does not stop after two days. While taking this medication, drink plenty of clear liquids to replace fluid loss from diarrhea and prevent dehydration.
Drug Interactions
Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take including: cholestyramine. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
Overdose
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, slowed breathing, drowsiness or deep sleep, and slow pulse.
Notes
This medication is available without a prescription. However, there is a capsule form that requires a prescription. Do not use this for longer than 2 days without notifying your doctor. Consult your doctor before treating children under six years of age.
Missed Dose
Take each dose as directed. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
