How long to monitor for LEMTRADA?

Monitor patients for two hours after each infusion. Make patients aware that serious infusion reactions can also occur after the 2-hour monitoring period.

What is progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy?

Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML) has occurred in a patient with MS treated with LEMTRADA, diagnosed two months after the second course of treatment. The patient had previously received multiple MS therapies, but had not received other drugs for treatment of MS for more than one year. PML is an opportunistic viral infection of the brain caused by the JC virus (JCV) that typically only occurs in patients who are immunocompromised, and that usually leads to death or severe disability. At the first sign or symptom suggestive of PML, withhold LEMTRADA and perform an appropriate diagnostic evaluation. Typical symptoms associated with PML are diverse, progress over days to weeks, and include progressive weakness on one side of the body or clumsiness of limbs, disturbance of vision, and changes in thinking, memory, and orientation leading to confusion and personality changes. MRI findings may be apparent before clinical signs or symptoms. Instruct the patient to contact their doctor if they develop any symptoms suggestive of PML.

What percentage of LEMTRADA patients have candidiasis?

Fungal infections, especially oral and vaginal candidiasis, occurred in 12% of LEMTRADA-treated patients compared to 3% of interferon beta-1a patients.
