How do I find out where a patient is in the hospital?
The only thing to do is call the hospital desk and ask for an alert. If there's no press release, they usually can confirm or deny the room number (unless otherwise stated).
Is it worth complaining about the NHS?
If you are unhappy with an NHS service, it is worthwhile discussing your concerns early on with the service, as they may be able to sort the issue out quickly. Most problems can be dealt with at this stage but, in some cases, you may feel more comfortable speaking to someone not directly involved in your care.
Do pals pay compensation?
While PALS can help with your complaint, it does not award compensation. You should be aware that if you decide to start an NHS negligence claim, you cannot then ask PALS to investigate.
Is pals a formal complaint?
PALS does not investigate formal complaints but focuses on resolving issues, as well as dealing with questions, suggestions and concerns. If you are acting on behalf of a patient, PALS will need to obtain verbal consent from the patient in the first instance.
Will a hospital tell you if a patient is there?
Yes. The HIPAA Privacy Rule, at 45 CFR 164.510(b), permits covered entities to notify, or assist in the notification of, family members, personal representatives, or other persons responsible for the care of the patient, of the patient's location, general condition, or death.
What is considered an unsafe discharge from hospital?
Discharge occurs too soon and you are still ill. You do not feel ready to be discharged. You are discharged from hospital but cannot manage at home. You are not offered services you think you need.
Can you talk about a patient without saying their name?
Forbid any reference to the client's first name, last name, or description to protect their identity. It doesn't just stop at talking about patients without using names, there's more that needs to take place. Obviously, continue to reiterate that gossiping about patients isn't allowed at your practice.

The NHS Constitution sets out the rights you have as a patient of NHS services. All healthcare staff should involve you in decisions and treat you with kindness, dignity and respect. You have the right to complain if things don't go as you expect.
How do you make a complaint?
Tips for writing a formal complaint Date the letter of complaint. Provide your name and address. Give a clear account of what happened and what went wrong. Include all the relevant facts such as dates and names but try to keep the letter concise.
How long do NHS complaints take?
Most NHS Trust complaints procedures require an acknowledgement within 14 days but many will acknowledge your letter within 3 days. If you do not get an acknowledgement within this time frame, you should write again or telephone to check that your complaint was received.
