Is NEUPRO patch a controlled substance?
Neupro is not a controlled substance. Neupro contains rotigotine and is a once-daily transdermal (skin) patch approved to treat Parkinson's disease and restless legs syndrome. It is classified as a dopamine agonist and is thought to work by stimulating dopamine receptors in the brain.
Is there a generic for NEUPRO patch?
Rotigotine (Neupro) is an expensive drug used to control the signs and symptoms of Parkinson's disease or restless legs syndrome. This drug is less popular than comparable drugs. There are currently no generic alternatives to Neupro.
How effective is NEUPRO for RLS?

Neupro (rotigotine) can cause weight gain and swelling (fluid retention). If you have heart failure or a history of kidney disease, your provider will monitor you for weight gain and fluid retention.
When is the best time to apply NEUPRO patch?
Apply your patch when it's convenient for you, and apply it at the same time each day. Because NEUPRO is delivered through the skin, food should not affect the medication.
How long does it take NEUPRO to start working?
Neupro may take some time to work, since the drug isn't immediately absorbed by your skin. The drug usually won't show up on blood tests until at least 3 hours after applying a patch. It can take up to just over 24 hours for your body to fully absorb the drug, especially after your first dose.
How does NEUPRO help Parkinson's?
Neupro patches work by delivering the dopamine agonist rotigotine through the skin directly into the bloodstream. Rotigotine then stimulates dopamine receptors in the brain, mimicking the action of dopamine. By doing that, the therapy helps to ease motor and non-motor symptoms in patients with Parkinson's disease.
Does NEUPRO increase dopamine?

Using Neupro may cause sleep problems. These may include somnolence (excessive sleepiness), or problems falling or staying asleep. Sleep problems caused by Neupro can lead to suddenly falling asleep during a daily activity.
