What are the side effects of Auryxia?
Common side effects of Auryxia include:diarrhea,nausea,constipation,vomiting,cough, and.dark stools (related to the iron content).
Does Auryxia cause diarrhea?
Nausea, diarrhea, constipation, or vomiting may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. The iron in this medication may cause your stools to turn black.
How often should you take Auryxia?
The recommended starting dose is 1 tablet, swallowed whole, 3 times per day with meals. Auryxia tablets must not be chewed or crushed because it may cause discoloration of mouth and teeth.
How much phosphorus can a kidney patient have?
Healthy adults with normal kidney function, under 70 years of age, should consume less than 4,000 mg/day of phosphorus. Those over 70 years should consume no more than 3,000 mg/day. Average daily intake of phosphorus by healthy adults should not exceed these ULs.

AURYXIA ® (ferric citrate) is contraindicated in patients with iron overload syndromes, e.g., hemochromatosis
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS
Iron Overload: Increases in serum ferritin and transferrin saturation (TSAT) were observed in clinical trials with AURYXIA in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) on dialysis treated for hyperphosphatemia, which may lead to excessive elevations in iron stores.

The most common adverse reactions reported with AURYXIA in clinical trials were:
SPECIFIC POPULATIONS
Pregnancy and Lactation: There are no available data on AURYXIA use in pregnant women to inform a drug-associated risk of major birth defects and miscarriage. However, an overdose of iron in pregnant women may carry a risk for spontaneous abortion, gestational diabetes and fetal malformation.

How should I take AURYXIA? 1 Take AURYXIA exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider 2 Take AURYXIA with meals and adhere to any diet prescribed by your healthcare provider 3 Your healthcare provider will tell you how much AURYXIA to take and may change your dose if necessary 4 Swallow AURYXIA whole. Do not chew or crush. 5 If you are taking the antibiotics doxycycline or ciprofloxacin, you will need to take it separately from AURYXIA. Follow your healthcare provider’s instructions on when to take doxycycline or ciprofloxacin while you are also taking AURYXIA

Do not take AURYXIA if you have been diagnosed with an iron overload syndrome, such as hemochromatosis. AURYXIA may not be right for you. Before starting AURYXIA, tell your healthcare provider if you: have any other medical conditions. are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.
