Vyxeos is a combination chemotherapy medicine that contains two commonly used drugs for AML, daunorubicin, and cytarabine encapsulated in liposomes, which are fat-like coatings that allow more active drug to reach the bone marrow cells and help to reduce the harmful effects of daunorubicin and cytarabine on healthy tissue.

Vyxeos was compared to a standard combination of cytarabine and daunorubicin (7+3) in patients 60 to 75 years with newly diagnosed t-AML or AML-MRC. The median survival was 9.6months in the Vyxeos group and 5.9 months in the 7+3 group. The Complete Remission rate was 38% in the Vyxeos group and 26% in the &+3 group.

Medicines that interact with Vyxeos may either decrease its effect, affect how long it works for, increase side effects, or have less of an effect when taken with Vyxeos.
